Speak My Language Accessibility Statement (February 2021)

We have a plan for removing barriers to access in the Speak My Language program. This is called our "Disability Inclusion Action Plan" or DIAP.

We invite interested individuals and organisations to join our DIAP Committee.

Speak My Language will:

  • Make achieving accessibility part of our mission

  • Employ people with disabilities

  • Set dates for access and inclusion goals

  • Assign clear accessibility targets and responsibilities

  • Design the Speak My Language program with people with disabilities

  • Consult with an Advisory Group, consisting of people with disabilities, and representatives from recognised peak bodies representing people with disabilities.

  • Assign the National Program Manager (Jenny Bray) to fulfill the role of Access Officer

  • Provide continual accessibility training and/or mentoring support for our staff

  • Progressively implement WCAG 2.1 AA with our Speak My Language website and test improvements via test users

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for web designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

The Speak My Language website and portal is currently non-conformant WCAG 2.1 level AA. ‘Non-conformant’ means that the content does not conform to the accessibility standard. We are working to correct this situation. Please do not hesitate to contact Jenny Bray on 0428 145 219 to discuss how we can address access requirements.

Access Adjustments

Any person involved in Speak My Language, including Storytellers and their supporters, Travellers, Broadcast Travellers, State/Territory Coordinators, Mentors, National Team Members or Advisory Group Members can contact our Access Officer to raise access issues or request access adjustments. If you wish to make an access request you do not need to provide information about your disability, you can provide information only about the adjustment needs you require. You are protected by the ECCNSW Privacy Policy. For more information or to make an access request, please contact Jenny on E-mail: jenny.bray@eccnsw.org.au or Mobile: 0428 145 219.
