16/10/2023 - Storyteller Nidhi Shekaran nominated for Blind Australian of the Year Awards

We are proud to share that our Hindi speaking storyteller, Nidhi Shekaran, is an official nominee for the Blind Australian of the Year Awards. 

The Blind Australian of the Year Awards actively acknowledge and highlight the contribution that over half a million people who live with low vision and blindness make to Australian society. They celebrate the exceptional contribution of individuals living with blindness and low vision who, by their example, inspire others to excellence and by their actions, improve Australian community life.

20/10/2022 - Speak My Language (Disability) Launches 400 Interviews about Living Well with a Disability for Multicultural Communities

People with disabilities from culturally diverse backgrounds and key industry stakeholders have gathered from around Australia to mark the official Launch of the Speak My Language (Disability) Program in Sydney on October 17.

Speak My Language (Disability) is a national initiative that involves culturally diverse Australians sharing real stories, experiences, and advice about living well with a disability.

11/10/2021 - New Podcast Series Starts Conversations in Multicultural Communities About Disability

The Speak My Language (Disability) program has launched its new podcast series sharing stories, advice and resources about living well with a disability within contemporary multicultural Australia.

The podcasts amplify the voices of culturally diverse Australians living with disability from all around the country, and will cover up to 25 languages.

24/03/2021 - How To Develop Easy English Materials For Culturally Diverse People With Disabilities

 

There is currently very little research literature focused on developing easy English materials for Australians with disabilities of culturally diverse backgrounds.

According to results from the released in 2012, about 44% of Australian adults (aged 15-65 years) do not have the literacy skills to read a range of day to day reading tasks. This equates to 7.3 million adult Australians.
